About This GameSimmiland is a god game.Watch how mankind develops! What the heck is Simmiland? In Simmiland you create a small civilization that you can only influence indirectly by playing cards to the land, such as plants? and minerals ⛰️. Playing a plant on a grass biome tile will result in a wheat plant, but playing a plant card somewhere else will also create something else. Try to experiment as much as you can! the gist here is you play cards that have a direct effect on the biome and the living occupants of the island youre in charge of. and in order to play cards you need faith, which is a currency gained by selling cards in your deck or doing what the humans ask of you. seems fun and decently challenging so far right? the first thing i noticed went wrong is the controls are very clunky. panning around the map is very hard, and theres no zoom option. i found myself accidentally selling cards i clearly meant to deploy many times, and many discoveries require me to pixel snipe items as the humans are carrying them off. not while theyre on the ground. as the humans are carrying them. speaking of which, while the first few discoveries are very simple to make in a playthrough, the later ones are very unclear and youll most likely have to hope you accidentally stumble onto it. discoveries arent something you can skip either, as the humans seem determined to starve themselves to death or intoxicate themselves with berries. and the only way to stop them is to hope you have the right biome features and an inspect card. whats also frustrating is that humans will often pray for things that have nothing to do with their survival. starving? wish for a plague or a random bit of thunder. and since the cards you get are random, it can be very hard to give the humans what they want, when they want it. and if you dont, youll find your faith funding cut very quickly, meaning you may have to sell cards youll most certainly need later. the best part though is if you get too good at pleasing the humans theyll build a church for you. sounds alright until you realize it puts a cap on the populations iq, and thus their ability to discover things. in other words, the game punishes you for utilizing its primary mechanic. that being said youll much more likely find yourself needing that one card you just spent on the better good of human society and not being able to produce another. funny how jane wants a chicken right after i just created one >.> this game needs not only a ton of skill and knowledge to be good at, but way too much luck for a strategy game. sure, trial and error is a must here, but its tough to experiment in this game that well, as the results of experimentation is unclear. most likely either way mankind will still be out of food... and, lets say despite all this, despite humanity trying to starve itself, asking for random things and being unable to discover things without divine inspiration, that you somehow make the humans able to survive and even thrive and expand. the maps youre given to play with are tiny. the size of the islands range from maybe 1 or 2 small islands to a series of postage stamp sized rocks. so your reward for keeping the humans alive is that they run out of places to expand to very quickly. im sorry but this game is simply not rewarding or fun to play for me. its not a matter of fixing some bugs either, as a lot of the issues i have with this game are conceptual, not functional. if you enjoy a high level of risk and strategy and have the patience for it however, this might be your game still.. This game is so cute and charming, yet cute may be far from the truth when you actually delve in for those achievements! I really like this game. Each map is randomly generated, but restricted to one large island, or a few smaller, random-sized islands to keep gameplay generally orvanized. The fact that nearly every factor is affected by chance in one way or another makes this game feel absolutely organic, just as the creation of...well...everything should be! As one progresses in making their world of humans more intelligent (or keeping them dumb for fun), the current gameplay will get notably harder and more fast paced. This goes triple for those seeking to complete the game itself—getting humanity to surpass your own control! One description that this game highly needs on its tags is "puzzle". As a sorta-completionist, this game is extravagently challenging for that goal. There are numerous statuses to manage that all can change under your nose and fall into chaos, or even this unwanted settlement of peace, which actually prohibits further advancement in mid-gameplay. (I say gameplay and not game, because one can easily start up a completely new world every time a previous one is either exited, or if all of humanity in the previous world dies). I do like the feature that one can have a single save-file for whatever wonders they made. If you start a new world, the old save is unscathed, so the single save can act almost like a save-state in a console-romhack. However, the player has only one save, so he/she must be careful not to accidentally save any mistakes, unless the player is to use them as a lesson, or a sandbox to screw around! :D I've had a few issues playing here on my MacBook. I don't know what I am doing, but sometimes the game will crash when I leave a session just as an event is activated. I've sent crash reports with messages explaining what I supposed happened, but this reminds me that this game is still fresh. To all new players, make sure to caution yourself on speedy descisions, because this game is very stable, but as new as it is, it isn't completely stable, and crashes (probably because I play on the lesser-used Mac) could happen. Thankfully, nothing has corrupted itself yet, and I hope future updates will continue to optimize this. Either that, or Apple needs to optimize themselves to Steam! Ha Ha! I do have one concern about this game though: that single save file you can make. The restriction of only one save gives this game a nice edge to conserve memory storage, while making the game's startup over-all more convenient. The problem is that I often either save or restart when I want to do the opposite action. I feel that for either action or both, the player should have to confirm that they want to do it. On a final note, I highly recommend this game to players seeking a good puzzly challenge and to those who just love messing around. This favors the best of both worlds! I found it relatively easy to figure out at the start, but only realized when I was deep into the game that I could perform some actions that would've helped greatly prior to that point. Although it took me a while to post-maturely discover these abilities, I still love that they weren't discrete. Sometimes, walk-throughs are good for complex games, but this is simply enjoyable at every new layer uncovered. I have yet to finish this, and I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon! The endgame challenge is SUPER hard when you realize it! Outwardly simple, but gets deeper every minute!. It's just a great little game, highly addictive. The only problem with this game is that I need more of it... give me more.
